Frequently asked questions
How Surprizio works, reservation privacy and list sharing.
General
What is Surprizio?
Surprizio is a free app for creating and sharing gift lists with the people close to you. You add what you'd like, you share a link with your friends and family, and they reserve the gifts they want to give you — without ever doubling up, and without you knowing what has been reserved, if that is what you want.
Is it really free?
Yes, with no limit on lists or gifts, and no bank card required to create an account.
Do I need an account to use Surprizio?
To create a list, yes. But if you have been invited to reserve a gift on someone else's list, no account is needed — you simply follow the link you were sent.
What is the "My wishes" list that shows up on my account?
It's a permanent list, created automatically when you sign up, always available so you can add an idea without having to create a list first. Unlike your other lists, it can neither be deleted nor shared.
Gift ideas and buying guides
Does Surprizio offer ideas if I don't know what to give?
Yes. A catalogue of gift ideas, sorted by theme, along with buying guides, is freely accessible from the menu. When you find an idea you like, you can add it straight to one of your lists.
Do I need an account to browse the idea catalogue?
No, it is open to everyone, no account or sign-in required. An account is only needed once you want to add an idea to one of your lists.
Privacy and surprise
Does the person who created a list see who reserved what?
By default, no — that is the core principle of Surprizio. If you create a list for yourself, you never see which gifts have been reserved or by whom, so that the surprise lasts until the big day.
Can I choose to see everything anyway?
Yes. When you create your list, you choose whether to keep the surprise or to see the reservations — useful for a wedding list, for example, where there is no surprise to preserve.
What if I create a list for someone else, such as my child?
In that case you naturally see the reservations, and you can even record one yourself on behalf of the person concerned — handy when a relative has no internet access and tells you over the phone what they would like to give.
Who can see the reservations besides me?
The participants — the people you sent the link to: they see what has already been reserved, otherwise they could not avoid doubling up. The organiser you appoint sees them as well, which is precisely what allows them to help you. The only person who can be kept out of it is you, if you chose to keep the surprise.
Sharing and roles
How do my friends and family get to my list?
Through a unique link that you share yourself (message, email, family group chat, and so on). Anyone who follows that link can view the list and reserve a gift.
What is an organiser?
Someone you appoint, by email address, to help you manage the list (adding gifts, changing its status). This is useful when several people are organising an event together — both parents of a child, for instance.
Can I withdraw a share link if I sent it by mistake?
Yes, you can regenerate your list's link at any time from its management page — the old link stops working immediately.
Reservations
How do we avoid two people giving the same gift?
That is exactly what Surprizio is for: as soon as a gift is reserved by someone, it shows as unavailable to the other participants.
Can several of us each reserve part of the same gift?
Yes. If a gift is wanted in several copies, each participant can reserve some of them until the available quantity runs out.
Can I cancel a reservation I made?
Yes, at any time and with no waiting period. If you do not have an account, this works from the same device and the same browser you used to reserve (through a technical cookie) — with an account, there is no such restriction.
Can I cancel someone else's reservation if it looks abandoned?
No. Only the list's organiser, or its owner if they chose to see everything, can do that.
Group gifts
Can we give a gift together instead of one person reserving it in full?
Yes, some gifts can be set up as a group gift: everyone puts in the amount they choose until the price of the gift is reached (or with no set target, if the final amount is not known yet).
Does Surprizio actually handle the money for group gifts?
No. The amounts shown are declared for information only, so that everyone can coordinate on who puts in what — the actual payment between participants always takes place outside the app.
Chatting with other participants
Can I talk to the other people reserving gifts?
Yes, every list has a discussion area reserved for participants — invisible to the person who created the list if they chose to keep the surprise.
Everyday use
Does Surprizio work on a phone?
Yes, the app is designed to be used on a computer as well as on a phone.
Is there a browser extension?
Yes, a free extension for Chrome and Firefox lets you add a gift to one of your lists straight from an online shop's page, without copying anything: the name, price and image are picked up automatically. Installation links are available from your dashboard.
Which languages is Surprizio available in?
French, English and Italian for now, with more to come.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
Your account is permanently deleted. Content you created on lists shared with other people (reservations, messages) is anonymised rather than deleted, so as not to disrupt the experience of the other participants. Your own lists are deleted along with everything they contain.
For details on how your data is handled, see the Privacy policy.
